Embracing Change in 2019

Happy 2019! As I write this letter, we are in the midst of planning Pure Water for the World’s 20th anniversary celebration activities. Yes, PWW is entering into its twentieth year of improving the health and lives of children and families simply by providing sustainable access to life’s most basic necessities…safe water and sanitation.

THANK YOU! There are no adequate words to express our appreciation. PWW’s successes, and the thousands of lives that have been changed forever, are only made possible because of the generous commitment of our supporters, including you.

Over the years, PWW has experienced a great deal of change, evolving our programs to improve their impact, while continuing to be good stewards of our donors’ investments and remaining true to our mission.

Twenty years ago, we began installing water filters in family homes and schools. We are still installing water filters. Today, however, those filters are part of a comprehensive solution that incorporates water filters and latrines, as well as essential hygiene education, including menstrual hygiene management. Thorough follow-up and monitoring processes are integrated into today’s program to ensure correct, consistent, and long-term use of the tools and practices.

Our WASH Training and Consulting Teams are busier than ever, empowering more organizations to effectively implement safe water programs. And, teams in both countries are working more closely than ever before with local, regional, and national governments to develop, support, and implement widespread WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) initiatives.

There is an important change coming, which, as an invaluable part of our team, I want you to hear about from me.

This year, PWW will have a change in leadership as I embark on the next phase of my own journey…retirement. It has been an unbelievable 17 years, and I am honored to have led this organization. But I have not done this alone. I have had the privilege of collaborating with so many deeply dedicated people…our staff, the Board, partners, volunteers, and donors. It is a terrific organization, full of even greater potential. This year I will pass the torch onto its next leader, who will join the team and take the organization into the future.

Our Board of Directors has put together a search committee with a goal of having our new Executive Director in place by late spring. Our commitment to you is that PWW will continue its steadfast course, staying focused on our mission, with unobstructed passion, perseverance, and donor stewardship.

Without a doubt, you help make this organization successful!

Last year alone, we were able to reach almost 10,000 children and adults with life-changing solutions. Our teams provided WASH training to almost 1,000 people, covering a wide-range of topics. These documents (2018 Goals and 2018 Impact) share more highlights from the year. With your help, we are creating lasting change.

Looking ahead, highlights of our 2019 goals include:

  • Continue to deliver high quality, impactful WASH programs to children and families living in underserved communities.
  • Successfully hire and transition in PWW’s new Executive Director.
  • Celebrate PWW’s 20th Anniversary.
  • Expand PWW’s delivery model. Utilizing established WASH training programs, partner with community-based organizations to provide training, supervision, and follow-up that enables these organizations to effectively implement sustainable WASH programs in their own communities, increasing overall reach and impact.
  • Continue to build internal capacity of the organization.
  • Review monitoring program, making any modifications to improve effectiveness.

On behalf of all of us at PWW and the families we are fortunate to serve, I have the honor of thanking you. You are a critical element to the powerful change that is happening.

Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy, healthy, and prosperous year.

With gratitude,

Carolyn Crowley Meub
