PWW Team Member Highlight: August 2019

Each month we are featuring a member of PWW’s staff. This gives you the opportunity to get to know our team a little better and gain an understanding about what makes them such a special part of PWW’s safe water programs.

PWW Team Member: Ronald Pierre, PWW Haiti Team

PWW Office:  Port-au-Prince, Haiti

Position within PWW: Bio-sand Filter Technician

Years with PWW: 4

How did you first learn about PWW?

I first learned about PWW from my friends, Junior and Rony.

What inspires you the most about the work you do?

I am most inspired when conducting trainings. I’m inspired by the fact that PWW enables people to know about the water filters, receive the filters, and teaches them how to have safe water.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I often prepare sand for the filter. When there is training, I am out working on field, teaching people how to use the biosand filters. Sometimes I will help other staff enter data on the computer.

What has been your favorite project…or your proudest moment?

My favorite project is one we recently completed for 200 families in Léogane [the epicenter of the 2010 earthquake]. This is my favorite because of how much the families appreciated the WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) project, and they understood how important this project is for their community.

What has been your greatest challenge?

My greatest challenge is working in remote areas, where you cannot go with a car, and it can be quite difficult to access homes and people.

What is your favorite thing about working for PWW?

I like the teamwork among the staff and my department.

Tell us a little bit about your family.

I have been married three years. I have a two and a half year old son. I live in the community of Silo. My work at PWW helps me to support my family a lot.

What is your favorite activity to do when you are not working?

When I am not working, I am engaged in religious activity, such as going to church and reading my bible. I spend time with my family.

What is your favorite food?

Corn with black beans.

Anything else you want people to know about you?

I don’t have anything to add. Thank you so much.

We invite you to come visit Haiti and meet Ronald. We are truly grateful for his dedication to PWW and for his commitment to provide Haitian families with life-changing safe water.
