Spin on Fundraising…

With a pandemic changing plans and canceling events for people around the world, PWW supporters asked how they could still be involved. We quickly transitioned the 2020 Ride for Safe Water event, planned for June, to the 2020 Virtual Ride for Safe Water…and, it’s a testament that pandemics can’t stop good from happening!

PWW’s Ride for Safe Water was launched in 2019 by a long-time supporter and PWW Board Member and his wife (photo right). Together, they road with a friend across Iowa, participating in the well-known biking event, RAGBRAI, and bringing awareness to the global water problem, while raising money to help families in need of clean water. The Ride for Safe Water was resurrected again this year, giving people who are not able to participate in service trips and fundraising events a fun and creative way to continue to support PWW’s mission of safe water, sanitation and hygiene for all.

PWW supporters are invited to create a fundraising page (the PWW team can help!), set a personal cycling goal, and spread the news to their family members, friends and colleagues, asking for support in reaching their fundraising goals.

Linda Keefer and her friends launched the virtual ride in June (read Linda’s rider spotlight), riding 30 miles and raising almost $2,000 to benefit PWW. Linda even inspired her friend, John Langford, to utilize his Peleton and join her on the Ride for Safe Water (read John’s rider spotlight).

Last week, Vermont-native Shawn Foster rode his first century (read Shawn’s rider spotlight), raising enough money to provide lasting safe water, sanitation and hygiene education programs to three families who currently struggle without access to these basic human necessities.

The local Vermont news interviewed Shawn and some of the PWW team.
