PWW Team Member: Fredy Rodríguez

PWW Team Member Highlight: November 2020

Each month we are featuring a member of PWW’s staff. This gives you the opportunity to get to know our team a little better and gain an understanding about what makes them such a special part of PWW’s safe water programs.

PWW Team Member: Fredy Rodríguez

PWW Office:  Trojes and Maraita, Honduras – and “anywhere the wind takes him”

Position within PWW: Health Promoter

Years with PWW: 11

How did you first learn about PWW?

Through a friend of a friend that heard there was a job opening (usually rumors spread fast in this town!).

What inspires you the most about the work you do?

I get to meet a lot of people and am able to work with them and help them (through the work we do with PWW).

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for me is riding the motorcycle to get to the communities with a lot of rain these days! It always seems to be muddy and raining, muddy and raining! (Ha, ha)

What has been your favorite project or your proudest moment?

My proudest moment was to open the first tap and have water come out.  This happened when PWW had completed our first gravity flow water system for 128 families, a project we called BBQ after the first letter of each of the 3 communities (Bosque, Boqueron y Quebrada de Oro). People had been waiting for so long to have access to water. It was spectacular! Almost like going to the moon!

What has been your greatest challenge?

Laying 17 Km of PVC piping through the mountains.

What is your favorite thing about working for PWW?

My favorite thing about working with PWW is being able to know the families we serve and PWW visitors, and, at the same time, being able to bring a filter and a latrine to the families that we meet.

Tell us a little bit about your family.

Please see my pictures.

What is your favorite activity to do when you are not working?

My favorite activity is bee keeping and planting cacao, coffee, plantains and maracuyá fruit. I really enjoy agriculture, and my sons enjoy coming out to learn and spend time with their papá.

What is your favorite food?

Pasta, but I tend to eat anything you put on my plate.

Anything else you want people to know about you?

I enjoy working.
